A photo post of mine just got sent to limbo

I was uploading it with Picasa, and it kept saying "waiting for response" or something like that, and then nothing. No error message on Picasa, and no photo post here.

So, I'm posting this check-in just in case the photo post never shows up.

Hideous Home Décor #1

Another monstrosity brought to you courtesy of the folks at Home Goods.

Apparently, whoever made this ran out of paint and couldn't afford to finish coloring her in. Not that it would be much of an improvement.

Face it folks - nine times out of ten, there's a reason stuff ends up on sale at Home Goods - it's FUGLY!!! Posted by Picasa

Stephen King's "Nightmares & Dreamscapes"

Am I the only one who's been disappointed in "Nightmares & Dreamscapes" on TNT?

I've watched all episodes of the show so far, and with two exceptions, have asked myself "I sat through a whole hour for this???" The two exceptions were Umney's Last Case with William H. Macy, and Battleground with William Hurt.

I'm hoping the next two are better.

Bizarre Religious Artifact #4

The "Jesus Reads the Bible" Giant Floor Puzzle.

This is just so wrong on so many levels! Aside from the obvious question of why would anyone want a Giant Floor Puzzle in the first place, let alone a "Jesus Reads the Bible" one, did they even have Bibles in Jesus' time? Posted by Picasa

Well This is Interesting

A short while ago, my doorbell rang. Since I wasn't expecting anyone, I figured it was either my landlord or someone ringing my bell instead of my upstairs neighbor's bell. Nope, it was a young woman who said she was with U.S. Energy Savings Corp, and they were making sure that everyone in the neighborhood was registered to have their energy prices protected. It would only take five minutes, and all she'd need to see was a copy of my utility bill.

For some reason, warning bells sounded in my head, and I told her that I really couldn't do it right now, and asked her if she had any literature that I could read. She said yes, but that she'd need to verify my registration in person, would be in the area for a few hours, and could come back later if I'd like. I told her I really couldn't do it today, and finally closed the door on her.

Good thing I did, too! I did a search on Google, and this is what I found:

CUB Issues Consumer Alert For Chicago Area Natural Gas Users, Don't Be Fooled By Misleading U.S. Energy Sales Tactics
"several customers who called CUB said the company came to their door with a “petition” to freeze natural gas rates. A few weeks later, they received welcome letters stating their natural gas service had been switched to U. S. Energy. "

Nice, huh?

I think I'll have some "Small Fish and Seaweed Soup" - NOT! It looks gross enough on the package. I can't imagine what it would look like in real life!

It's the Dolphin Family Christmas!

I love dolphins, but the thought of a house full of dolphins in Santa hats makes me cringe. What's with the baby dolphins on the candle holder? Didn't their parents teach them never to play with fire?

And since when do dolphins have Christmas trees???

This is Theo's Favorite Pose

As for why, I'm not entirely sure. Maybe he's just adjusting to having all this room to move around in, after being cooped up in the ASPCA for a month.

Don't get me wrong, the accommodations at the ASPCA were much better than I thought they would be. I remember hearing stories about animals in shelter cages, but the folks there do a phenomenal job!

However, you can't compare a small unit there to a whole entire first-floor apartment, now, can you? Posted by Picasa

My Niece and Her Business Ideas

Now thatErica's got all her "papers" organized, she wants to talk "business".

Her business ideas so far are lemonade sales, candy sales, hand-made comic books, rock pets, pictures, paintings and selling holiday cards which, she says, "should be a big seller for us". She wanted to do "Invader Zim" comics, but I gave her a quick lesson in copyright law, so that's off-limits.

I told her that she could help me with my Mary Kay stuff. Bad move! Now she wants her name included when I put my ad in her school music show program, and all my ads. "Now everyone all over the world will see my name!"

Now I'm hearing all about "Hot Shot Business" on the Disney website, and how she can keep cash flowing.

Ever Have a Conversation With an Eight Year Old?

You know, the kind that goes on, and on, and on, and on...

Well, I'm in the middle of one with my niece, Erica right now. She's telling me all about her Super Mario Bros. video game, which I haven't had a chance to play yet. I'm hearing the intimate details of each and every level she's played so far!

Okay, now we've switched gears - we're talking business. Erica's decided that she needs to earn enough money to buy - get this - a television, a laptop and an iPod Shuffle. (Did I mention that she's eight?) So now she's asking me what she should do to earn enough money for all of this. This could be a very interesting conversation for my next blog entry!

The "Heroes of Faith" action figures! (Click the pic for a larger view). Collect 'em all! (More of these later, so stay tuned!)

Now you, too, can feed Daniel to the Lions!

Or, if the thought of committing acts of violence upon Biblical action figures makes you queasy, you can read the enclosed Scripture Scroll instead! Posted by Picasa

Horrendous Holiday Décor #1

Look! They're playing dress-up! He's wearing her dress, and she's wearing his Easter outfit! I'm not sure which is worse – the bunny in drag, or the Easter bonnet from hell.

This is but a small sampling of some of the horrendous holiday décor found in my local Home Goods store. Posted by Picasa
